Cbeyond Employee Review
Cbeyond – “Their model is hard on the sales force but is the only great success story in the small business market.”
4 of 8 people found this helpfulPros
Excellent company stability and very reliable growth, highly competent senior management, and the satisfaction of being a member of a company that really is the very best at what it does, namely a telecom provider to small businesses. Cbeyond is the only telecom company in the U.S. to really master the small business market, and this is based on their unique approach to marketing.
Cons
Cbeyond's success is based on their insight that the only way to succeed in the small business market is to get feet in the door; no other marketing method works. They use a young energetic sales force, mostly right out of college and mostly female. While this ensures success at getting feet in the door, it also means very hard work for the sales force and a relatively high turnover rate. This accounts for the big disparity between sales force reviews and other departments.
Advice to Senior Management
Stay the course.

My main issue with your post is that this is a site for people to discuss their work experiences at their company, not a Investor Relations site where people are deciding if they want to purchase Cbeyond stock or not. Your comments don’t lend to work place environment at Cbeyond. Your comments don’t discuss the at-will firing of employees that may or may not be based on performance. Your comments don’t discuss the long hours or that senior management expects 24X7 of their employees.
Yes, Cbeyond has been highly successful, but when you peel back the onion, it turns out they did it at the expense of their employees. Prior to this economic downturn the employees were compensated accordingly by exercising their stock options, but since Wall Street has plummeted, employees can no longer find compensation in that manner.
I also noticed that you put your job function / job title as Consultant. That means that you get paid by the hour. I wish I had been paid by the hour for all those nights and weekends that I worked without any recognition, pay, comp time, or bonus. If I was able to charge by the hour, I’d be positing positive thing as well.
