I have been working at Celadon Trucking Services full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    - Great for entry level positions
    - Great Culture, Employees don't take themselves too seriously
    - High level of responsibility with little micro management
    - Advancement opportunities for those who qualify

    Cons

Celadon is great for recent college graduates who want experience. New hires are given a workload that usually causes moderate work/life balance issues. Generally speaking, if you haven't advanced in your role at Celadon within in 2 years, it is time to look elsewhere. The experience you will have gained at Celadon from working those 2 years will look great on your resume and usually land you a salary that would take you 3 - 5 years at Celadon to acquire. Celadon does pride itself on internal advancement, however you will need to know the right people. If you are in good with upper management you will see advancement. I wouldn't say it is necessarily nepotism as this involves hiring family, they hire friends and pay them more (much more) than they would any other employee. I would prefer my work to speak for itself. The management team at Celadon generally has no management experience, they are usually given the position because a manager leaves the company, which creates many unintended consequences. Upper management provides all the ideas to the managers. If the managers don't blindfully follow Upper Management they are let go because, "They did not fit in with the company culture." Customer Service turns over employees at an astonishing rate. If a Customer Service employee submits their 2 weeks notice, they are instantly walked off the floor. Be careful who you share ideas with as that idea might be presented by a higher up at their next meeting.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I've never understood why a college degree is such an incredibly sought after qualification. There needs to be more of a focus on employees that are willing to retire with the company. If this doesn't change, you will continue 2 year and done rule. Also, the pay has to be somewhat competitive. The employees know they are grossly underpaid and the culture is good enough where many employees still don't leave. However, when the right opportunity presents itself they will leave every time unless a more competitive pay structure is put in place.

The company is still a solid 4/5 stars as upper management does know what they are talking about and they do treat their employees well. Employees are very easy to get along with as well. They give employees free range on projects with little to no deadlines.

I have been working at Celadon Trucking Services full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Mangers are easy to talk with. No Micro-Managers. Co-workers are respectful, have a sense of humor, and try to help each other accomplish goals. I like the people I work with. Within the confines of the company culture and strange rules mangers try to help employees do their jobs better.

    Cons

"Too many Chiefs not enough Indians." Projects being dictated by unqualified and unskilled people. Waffling by management on projects because they don't want to take responsibility. The ticketing system is from the late 80's and needs to be updated. Nepotism is never a good idea. Environment is too loud and distracting.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I waste more time in meetings, taking notes, and fighting with the ticketing system then actually getting work done. Please remove these roadblocks. Give good managers the power to empower employees to be more productive and effective. Spend the time and money to simplify and improve processes. Invest in a internal intranet video training system.
