I have been working at CenterPoint Energy full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

They're not going away anytime soon. Fairly innovative for a utility. If you like it, you can stay as long as you like. The people are nice and have lots of spare time to help anyone who asks.

    Cons

Utilities are generally not very innovative. Decisions are very slow, involve lots of people, boat-rocking is not welcome. Most of the company has been there forever, and without market pressures, it operates like a 1980s organization.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop looking at what other utilities are doing, and look at what other companies are doing...the rest of the world has become leaner and more efficient out of necessity.

I worked at CenterPoint Energy as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

CNP values their co-ops and interns. You're treated like an actual employee and work on projects that contribute to both the company and your learning. In addition to the facility tours and Lunch & Learns, they offer plenty of networking, professional development, and volunteer opportunities. Managers are approachable and co-workers are always willing to mentor and share their knowledge. Overall, it's a great place to begin an internship or co-op.

    Cons

    None. Didn't experience anything negative.
