I have been working at Ceradyne

Pros

decent pay and good benefits, but this doesn't make up for what you'll go through to get it (see cons).

Cons

Ceradyne Defense has no problem hiring a dozen managers, but balks at hiring people who actually produce the parts.

The end result is that if you're a "worker bee" at Ceradyne, you are required to work 12-16 hours per day, 7 days a week, including holidays.

Worker bees also have no access to resources because the managers and supervisors are tied up in meetings all day long, every single day. This tends to cause confusion and delays in production on the floor. Of course, the worker bees are held accountable for the chaos.

Also, several of the managers are verbally abusive and use threatening language to "get their point across". The solution to all problems is to throw more paperwork into the mix, which creates more problems, which creates more paperwork, and on and on and on.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Overall this is a horrible work environment. The age-old American problem of "too many chiefs, not enough Indians" and "too many bosses, not enough leaders" applies to the Ceradyne Defense division. There are people here who after being loyal employees for 10 or 20 years or more are fed up and would just rather work at Wal-Mart at this point.

    I worked at Ceradyne

    Pros

    1. Your co-workers, cell leads and supervisors are very friendly and respectful.
    2. The conditions within the factory are very acceptable.
    3. The work load is never overbearing.
    4. You are eligible for raises very quickly and also available to a portion of a bonus pool every year that one is present.

    Cons

    1. One of the supervisors at the factory has a double standard problem and they treat everybody as they see fit instead of treating everyone the same and holding everyone to the same standard.
    2. The unpredictability of when you will become a full time employee is vey high.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I think that the plant manager needs to ask some of his co-workers about how they feel about the supervisors that they work under the supervision of, so that he can find out how inappropriately one of his supervisors is conducting themselves.
