Current Employee - Systems Engineer  in  Kansas City, MO
Current Employee - Systems Engineer in Kansas City, MO

I have been working at Cerner full-time for more than 5 years

Pros

+ An okay starter company after graduating college.

Cons

- If you wanted to have a career change, it can be hard because Cerner skills are not transferable.
- Culture is not open or helpful.
- Management tends to fall into cronyism hiring trends.
- Team leads/managers do not assign new projects (possibly interesting work) to employees equitably.
- "If you don't like it here, we can find someone to replace you" mentality rather than trying to rectify employee grievances.
- If you went through the System Engineer Velocity program and get placed anywhere other than CernerWorks, it can be very hard to get a CernerWorks position should you try to move after 18 months (minimum time on a team before an employee can switch)

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat associates with respect. Do not belittle them. Management should care more about an employees growth.

I have been working at Cerner full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Cerner offers very competitive salaries and a wide variety of advancement opportunities. There is a relaxed work environment.

    Cons

You are going to work a lot. Don't expect to come into any job with Cerner and only work 40 hours a week, if you do you won't last long. Also by the time you master any solution you are going to be moved to a different role. A good attitude is to be comfortable being uncomfortable when it comes to consulting at least.

    Pros

Benefits are competitive and you get a sabbatical if you survive long enough.

    Cons

Never ending workweeks and slave mentality.
