Pros

Fast-paced, never boring as there is always more work to be done. The end result of improving patient care is always what's most important to Cerner associates and I see it repeated daily.

Cons

Promotions are based on how many years you've been there, so you're not in control of your career. Dealing with unsatisfied physicians and nurses is exhausting, especially when half the time they are the ones that mess up and blame it on the software.

Advice to Management

Reward employees with small bonuses or incentives. We finished a 9 week training program and got nothing for it. It would have been a great statement from management to say that the work was appreciated and would help retain employees to stay at the company longer.

    Pros

Good first job. You'll gain lots of useful experience. However, be prepared to work some long hours. If you're a hard charger, you can move up the ladder fast.

    Cons

No work/life balance. Most employees are underpaid. Employee performance reviews are done using the bell curve. It's best to get your feet wet with Cerner and then 2-3 years down the road, use that experience to catapult you to a better job.

    Advice to Management

Focus more on retaining the talent you've got, instead of thinking everyone is easily replaceable by the next crop of college kids.

  2. Challenging, fast paced, and interesting

    Pros

Challenging, growing company, endless opportunities because of the rapid growth

    Cons

You will work very hard, but the work I've done has been mostly, very interesting. There is a steep learning curve in consulting.,
