Cerner – “Need to work on retention!

Apr 23, 2009

2.0

Cerner Solution Delivery Consultant in Kansas City, MO:   (Past Employee - 2008)

Pros

Progressive company. Previously allowed virtual associates to work from home offices. Decent salary.

Cons

Middle management is very poor and communicates little. There is also very little communication from senior management. There was a lack of cohesiveness of associates from the many different areas within the company. I learned after 10 years that there was NO advancement potential for virtual associates.

There was also very little foresight into retaining experienced people. Last year Cerner hired dozens of people with very extensive healthcare experience and treated them as if they were new college grads with regards to training in Cerner products. As a result, many of them left Cerner within a matter of months of being hired. This was a huge cost to the company with no benefit. Even the new college grads leave usually within a year or so because they get burned out by the extensive travel and lack of support. Cerner likes to throw bodies at a problem, not necessarily ones with knowledge unfortunately.

Advice to Senior Management

Find out what is really going on down in the "trenches" with the "little guy". Don't rely on middle management for your information. The information will not be the same.
