Former Employee - Systems Engineer in Kansas City, MO
Former Employee - Systems Engineer in Kansas City, MO

I worked at Cerner full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

Good health insurance, lost of brilliant and talented engineers

Cons

Long long hours are expected, night and evening work is regular and you still have to be in at 8 am the next day. The regions split in infrastructure is a nightmare. A few of the new execs came from Cerner works and run their teams like a master would run a slave ship. No room for error. Many are fired for simple mistakes. Not nearly enough engineers to cover the backlog of work. Server reclamation status alone is around 8 months behind schedule. Most good associates leave after 6 months to a year

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Clean house in the NA region. Leasdership is inept.

    Pros

    Easy to get a job

    Cons

There is really nothing good to say about this company. The executives are inept, people are promoted by who they know not by the quality of their work, huge turnover, no support from team leads or managers, no room for individual thinking, no time for eating, sleeping or having any kind of a life outside of work. 48 hour minimum work week to get a "satisfactory" review, minimal raises, no raise with advancement - you get a "promotion" and then have to prove yourself in the role for a year and then you might get paid for your work.

Care about and invest in your current employees.

I have been working at Cerner

    Pros

    - Flexible Schedules -- they let you work from home whenever you need to.
    - Rapid growth opportunities -- growing rapidly, so it is possible to become a manager quickly.

    Cons

Sometimes you have to work un-regular hours, but there's nothing extraordinary about these hours.
