I have been working at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital full-time (more than an year)

Pros

Friendly coworkers--although certain professionals (RN's especially) seem to be quite disgruntled frequently. Private hospital (read: independent)--doesn't HAVE to function like a big hospital bureaucracy. Hospital-wide focus upon improving culture and team orientation. Small-medium sized hospital providing needed care to surrounding communities, trying to find its niche.

Cons

Private hospital (works both ways). Antiquated systems, behind the times w/technology. Potential trouble for recruitment. Business strategy seems to have no clear vision. Feels as though the focus can be too much upon expansion, referrals, costs, etc.--instead of always focusing upon the one thing a hospital should--quality care. Finally--not all departments seem to function together cohesively, being quite separatist at times.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to focus upon improving culture. Update technologies and your overarching business systems and department protocols. Operations don't need to be so robotic. Having systems in place is necessary, but not at the risk of alienating employees and being inefficient. Be willing to ask your employees for input upon how to better improve the ways things operate--they'll surprise you more than you think. Don't always assume you're the smartest person in the room, or in this instance--building.

I have been working at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Fair amount of teamwork among "floor workers", work allows for growth of skills (though not advancement), close commute, love my coworkers.

    Cons

Too many chiefs, often are "penny wise and pound foolish", more focus on "looks" than what would lead to better patient care, little acceptance of employee input, broken or missing equipment, don't realize or don't care when morale has dropped to an all-time low, often short staffed, no recognition for those who go above and beyond yet pay more to new people coming in with little experience than those with years experience who they have train them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Recognize and Value your good employees and those who have gone above and beyond for years, listen to their views (they are the ones in the center of it all), focus on patient care over "looks", revamp your pay-scale to reflect employee value.
