Pros

25% discount on everything, including sale items. Sometimes they will offer a 40% discount on special holiday or appreciation weekends.

Hour-long break if you work over 7 hours, 30-minute break if you work 6 hours. None if you work 5 or less.

Cons

You start off at $7.25 per hour and if you are promoted to a lead position you MIGHT get $8.00.

The products carried are poorly made and the extremely low price tags attract customers who do not want customer service.

The size of stockroom is pitiful. There is no room to place boxes for shipment, which arrives once a week. Shipment usually crowds the back hallway and blocks the entrances to bathrooms and the fire exit. The store's entire stock is on the sales floor, resulting in a cluttered store that is overwhelming to customers.

All employees must wear headsets on shift while the manager on duty is constantly yelling the store's current UPT and DPT in your ear.

Not all employees are not cross-trained. Only a select few know how to use the POS system (Retail Pro 8, which deserves its own separate review). Only those promoted to lead positions are trained to do each others' jobs.

There are 5 different lead positions, and managers do not pay attention to these leads' job descriptions. The Markdown Specialists were assigned to do job more often than I did, and when I questioned management, they claimed they training them. I was treated as a glorified sales associate.

The store has only 3 dressing rooms which is irritating for customers, especially on busy days.

Advice to Management

Multiple lead positions are unnecessary. Create one lead position and promote a few, qualified employees to share the SAME responsibilities.

Get a new POS system.

Increase pay rate.

Implement a better quality control system for product manufacturing.

    Pros

Getting in on the ground level of a growing company and putting your stamp on a successful company's future culture, routines, and identity.

    Cons

Some of the worst benefits in the specialty retail market. Managers work very long hours, at home as well, and are all paid salary.

    Advice to Management

When every one of your managers at all of your stores tells you they are exhausted and they work so much, and it's one of the slowest months of the year, give them a reason think twice about walking out - like affordable benefits.
