I worked at Charming Charlie for more than a year

Pros

Most of the co-workers are really nice. The company is enthusiastic, encouraging, and fun.
There was often a great sense of camaraderie and team work.

Cons

Unless you are a senior manager, you can't get more than 20 hours a week. Often you will only get about 13.
You're required to do more than most retail: meet sales quotas every hour, try to get customers to sign up for emails and magazine subscriptions, and add on items.
Like most retail, you have to work almost all weekends.
You have to be "on" the entire time. They don't call you a "charmer" for nothing.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make sure that all the managers are on the same page when it comes to procedure. I would often get four different answers. Follow through on manager training.

    I have been working at Charming Charlie part-time for less than a year

    Pros

    Employees receive 25% off of regular price items.

    Cons

    This job expects way too much for little pay. You get on-call shifts, you have to add on items and also talk about magazine subscriptions which most customers already know about and don't want. Always under staffed and puts pressure on employees about ADS and conversion and employees have to clean bathrooms. Doesn't make this a fun atmosphere when you're more about numbers than actual customer service. I have a customer service background and this is not customer service it doesn't feel authentic and very scripted. Big disappointment!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Need to get a better register system which allows employees to check customers out much faster. Need to pay employees more for all the expected job duties you want performed and staff more employees at work besides one employee at a time working with management. This obviously shows that the company is being cheap and doesn't want to pay. Was looking for opportunity with a new company that stays up with current trends but after working here I would never recommend this place.

    Can't think of anything this company does right!

    This company has no consistency! Terrible quality in the product and absolutely no work life balance!
