They are very flexible with schedules. It is a very relaxed, low stress environment.

    I worked at Charming Shoppes full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    There is an in-house cafe, excellent health and disability benefits, a matching 401K plan and a value put on recognizing individual talent achievements. Plenty of money is spent on company resources and equipment, accommodating employee needs, holding parties and celebrations, and encouraging continuing eduction and training programs.

    Cons

    Since the company was acquired in 2012 by Ascena Retail Group, they've eliminated most of the brands and subdivisions and laid off half their workforce. In turn, this has scared a lot of the existing workers into leaving the company which has lead to current employees taking on additional roles and responsibilities to fill the vacancies. In turn, it has lead to a decline in work life balance which now results in many dissatisfied employees working one too many hours.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    The company likes to hand out empty promotions to make up for the extra responsibilities, so you'll find there are a lot of unnecessary "managers" only managing one person or no one at all. This leads to lots of individual micromanaging and unnecessary hands in the pot when it comes to making decisions. In turn, this awkward structure results in one too many meetings about well, meetings. They love to hold meetings.
