I have been working at Charter Communications full-time

Pros

Great People. Competitive Benefits. Promoting from Within. Great Vacation, sick and floating holiday time.

Cons

Commission cuts constantly. Hundreds of conflicting sales metrics. Stripped away earned seniority. Unfair shift bids every 6 months. Micro-managing foot soldier supervisors. Life/work balance isn't cared for. Asking for overtime when it is slow and not busy.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to you employees. Keep morale high. Motivate with money and praise instead of talking down to people and making them feel worthless.

I worked at Charter Communications full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Discounted cable services as an employee

    Cons

Great managers have been replaced by cheap, clueless managers. The saying holds true at least in this case "you get what you pay for." In the last couple of years Charter has replaced great managers with cheap managers to reduce expenses. This has resulted in a failing company full of micro managers who try to solidify their existence by controlling versus empowering their employees. Do not lower your standards even when desperate for a job. There are good companies who value their employees. This is not one of them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Autocratic management styles works in the army not in the cable business. Take some current management courses to learn how to successfully run a business in the 21st century. When the economy recovers employees will remember how they were treated and Charter will struggle to keep anyone worth keeping.
