I have been working at Charter Communications full-time (more than an year)

Pros

Charter offers high quality products and services in a highly competitive marketplace. The technical expertise of the engineering staff is second to none. Processes are logical and easy to navigate.

Cons

Unnecessary conference calls can be time wasters. Numbers focused instead of solutions focused.

I worked at Charter Communications as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

Great overworked people on your team. Salary is good and you will earn every bit of it .

    Cons

Get ready for hell. Charter is a place where good testers go to be humbled and abused. Total and complete sweatshop nightmare. Expect to be bludgeoned with mandatory OT and to be asked and expected to work every weekend until the horribly mismanaged project you are working on is "completed" or cancelled because of so many defects that it cannot be tested effectively. Be ready to be thrown under the bus by cagey middle management types with petty agendas who are full time employees that are so fear driven that they have become "tow the company line" morons.. As a contractor you have zero chance of ever being made a full time employee unless you are willing to work off the clock and are seen on IM slaving away until after midnight every day and even then you might suddenly be told you are getting your contract cancelled for "budgetary reasons" or some insane made up reason that does not make any sense.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Leave the company because your soul is in jeopardy! You cannot treat your testers like cattle and drive them like dogs to complete a project on time and then give them little notice that they are suddenly out of work when that project is finally completed. It's called Karma and it will come around and get you eventually. Stop telling people they are doing a good job one week and the next have some idiot tell them that their contract is not being renewed.

I worked at Charter Communications full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    Discounted services cable hsi telephone

    Cons

Management has no vision. They set goals with no clue as to how to attain those goals. The pay sucks. They have no regard for personal time or families. The only way to make any money is to work for direct sales. No real chance for advancement if you do suck up a lot.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get a clue. Care about your people. If you're going to lay out a vision, have an idea of how to bring it to fruition.
