I worked at Chartwells full-time (more than 5 years)

Pros

Hard work is recognized, salaries are above average in some locations - especially those that are unionized, paid training courses related to job

Cons

High turnover in direct service positions which leads to a lot of training of new staff, some incompetent or apathetic head chefs

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Managed food service is a huge industry - and just because you have an account doesn't mean that you will always have it. Listen more to guests and work towards putting more love into the food that is provided.

    I worked at Chartwells

    Pros

Compass Group has great benefits, promotions from within are possible, ability to move anywhere in the world with Compass Group.

    Cons

Chartwells upper management uses salaried managers to work 60 plus hours a week, to keep hourly labor costs down. I felt overworked, and had little work-life balance. If you have a family, please be cautious of taking a management position with Chartwells.

I have been working at Chartwells

    Pros

alot fun people to work with
very flexible on hours when it comes to needing off for a school event

    Cons

little to no punishment for people who dont show up
They dont hire more people when someone quits so the end of the year gets busy
    constantly short on people

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

When a person quits hire a new person to fill in their spot. Other we end up short nearly every night and it gets very stressful.
