I worked at Chatham University part-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

Lots of free time comes with working as an Ambassador. There'd be entire weeks where we went without giving a tour because there were always many more tour guides on each shift than there were people coming in for a tour. You get lots of respect and Chatham swag as an ambassador too!

Cons

Very, VERY low amount of hours. Expect 4-5 a week if you're lucky. While any work is good, other student workers had much more full schedules

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Engage student ambassadors more. While it's a great job to have, many people who were actually a part of the program just felt bored

Working for Chatham has caused so much unnecessary stress.

    I worked at Chatham University

    Pros

Ideal for students that can walk to campus. Pay is above minimum wage.

    Cons

Payroll was unorganized, many students were not informed that they only pay once monthly, and supervisors were all part of a clique that is alienating for student workers. Overall, the atmosphere was unfriendly. Chatham holds mandatory trainings that they refused to pay employees for.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There needs to be better training on professional behavior for those in leadership positions.

Cool place to work but upper management is terrible

I worked at Chatham University part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Great people to work with and offices are usually in cool historic buildings

    Cons

Lots of turnover--very difficult to form consistent work relationships when everyone is always transitioning roles. High up management (the President of the school) has no idea what's happening on the ground. She changes focus every semester, making it difficult to build any program.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Offer tenure so professors and deans stay longer and BUILD programs instead of leaving them high and dry when a new interest comes up
