Excellent company, too much R&D control as opposed to sales/product management

Pros

Check Point has an excellent team of veteran engineers, who can make the impossible happen. The team are dedicated, fair, working with them is a pleasure.

Cons

Roadmap planning is too politicized
No career path for project managers
No product management in the organization - for a company who has 10's of products!

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Company leadership is too heavily biased towards R&D, the is little regard to the role of a product manager nor any pressing need to establish such an organization. This should change.

    Pros

Subsidized lunches. Benefits are relatively ok. You will find great colleagues, who will share your frustration. Nice walking paths around the office.

    Cons

No matter if you are a director or entry level – you WILL be yelled at, humiliated, and undermined at one point during the first 3 months. Everything you think you know, everything you thought was expected from you, all your skills and expertise – they all mean nothing at check point. All decisions and ways of action are determined by 2-3 executives – the CEO and his deputies. If you dare to suggest a solution, if you, god forbid, express an idea – you will be scorned, most likely in front of your peers and even your subordinates.

You might think I am just one disappointed incident that decided to trash the company online. The fact is, everyone at Check Point wants out. If you make the mistake of taking the job, you’ll come back to this review and beat yourself for not taking these words in to serious consideration.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Quit. Or let the people you employ as VP’s, directors, and managers actually do their job. You might also consider getting some formal education in managing a global corporation.

    Pros

Good to work at in general. There is a lot of work, but you don't have to kill yourself to get the job done.

    Cons

Paying commission true-ups is slow. The travel policy has gotten bother some (cut back in hotel quality, room sharing at company events).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Remember your field sales folks are on the road a lot, and making this easier for them makes up for the relativity low pay compared to our counterparts at Cisco, Symantec, etc.
