Current Employee – been working at Chemonics International
Pros – A large variety of professionals you can work and learn from. You can find a large diversity of people with different backgrounds, experience and personalities. You will find at least a few people whom you can really learn from and enjoy working with. There are a lot of people in higher levels who are down to earth and happy to mentor you. You'll find a lot of different project to work with regardless of the region or department you are in. Trouble is sometimes getting people to embrace something new rather than what they are comfortable with.
Cons – Lack of work/life balance. Working long hours seem to be what is expected regardless of the efficiency in it. A very reactive workplace. Not much thought is put into improving processes or time management or preparing for the next "crisis". Debriefs are usually a waste of meeting time as nothing is really learned or implemented Poor management. A very disorganized management structure that promotes based on who you know and how long you've been employed rather than what your skills and accomplishments are. Very hierarchical with a lack of respect to the support divisions. It often feels like a bad high school movie with cliques and gossiping masked with lots of company social functions. If you plan in having a long career here, focus a lot on staying chummy with the main players.
Advice to Senior Management – Promote and encourage those who have earned it based on their performance and not on who they socialize with. ** Encourage proactive behavior **
