Current Employee – been working at Cherry Bekaert & Holland full-time
Pros – Free snacks if that is you thing
PTO in line with big 4 (except they lump sick days in with PTO so not quite the same)
Some of the staff are quite nice
They are a bit flexible with start times so it's not a huge hassle to schedule appointments and quick meetings
Cons – Can only speak for the DC office.
There are not enough people working here (more so the tax department). Management is pretty poor and there is one manager in particular that is sucking the life out of the department. Unfortunately, there is no system in place for upward feedback so the staff have no way of communicating this to partners.
The partners do not seem concerned enough about staff morale and in an environment where you often have to work 60+ hours this is important.
The OT hours are only SLIGHTLY less than big 4 but the quality of clients and technology available is significantly worse. In short, don't come here because you want to get away from big 4. You will regret it. Pretty much the same amount of hours for fewer perks and not much in the way of training or "prestige".
This office was decimated about a year or 2 ago when everyone left and has not really recovered from that.
Mandatory saturdays in busy season whether you have work to do or not.
Advice to Senior Management – Partners need to actively seek to improve management. The staff does most of the actual work and it is important to the company that they are at least satisfied (if not happy). Implement a way for upward feedback. HIRE MORE PEOPLE. Develop guidelines and standards and STICK to them. Don't allow individuals to dictate processes.
