I worked at Chevron as a contractor for more than 3 years

    Pros

Nice, friendly people. Plenty to do, and with balance. People really do care about safety and ethics.

    Cons

A manager with not enough to do apparently, spies on people in the bathroom to determine whether they are going pee or poop. He actually told me, "I need to do that at home" when he caught me going poop.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The above explains itself. There is plenty of software at Chevron monitoring staff. Do you really need bathroom monitors?

I have been working at Chevron full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

    Every other Friday off
    Annual bonus
    Salary
    Value system
    Lots of different opportunities

    Cons

Who you know gets you promoted - not accomplishments, value added, or delivery/behaviors
The majority of managers aren't leaders and drive the promotion by who you know
Still a culture that is not accepting of change and struggles with having multiple generations of workers

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Individuals shouldn't be managers just because they have put in time at Chevron. Would love to see a company assessment of leadership skills and start targeting people for management positions based on individuals' ability to work with people to set and accomplish goals aligned with Chevron's ROI and goals
