I worked at Chevron as an intern (less than an year)

Pros

I have worked for a few oil and gas companies now, but I only worked for Chevron for three months as an intern.

- Great company culture: teamwork based, so people help each other rather than treat each other as competition
- Great people (as cheesy as it sounds): Chevron has some of the msot talented people of any oil and gas company I have encountered
- Liberal company culture: people are very accpeting, no matter what your interests/beliefs
- Great benefits (401k, gift-card bonus program, etc.)
- Great work: lots of fields/reservoirs
- Great work-life balance
- Compensate technical staff more so than others: there is a group of technical "champions" (forgot the name) who are compensated virtualy the same as top-level management; I have never seen this in a company before
- Great volunteer program: great way of meeting people and doing some charity work in the local community
- One of the only companies (besides Google) that seems to actually care about its employees: ergonomics softwares installed on all computers -force- people to take extended breaks and talk to others around the office; numerous other health & wellbeing beenfits, etc.
- CEO is more "real" than others I have heard, and he was actually hired internally!
- The list goes on...

Cons

- The company is large, and thus by nature slightly more bureaucratic than smaller comapnies
- Difficult to work abroad during the first 5 years of work (or so I was told)

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep up the good work (as far as I could see)

I have been working at Chevron as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

Great atmosphere! They care so much that you have ALL the tools to do the job you're hired for. The job is challenging enough to keep you interested but not impossible.

    Cons

As a contractor, I get strung along for the "full-time possibility" ride. Not much team cohesion.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Just because there are young team members, doesn't mean that you can take advantage of their future by stringing them along month to month. Make a move if you want contractors to stay.
