I have been working at Chicago Public Schools full-time

Pros

-Very dedicated teachers -Some schools are supportive of teacher growth

Cons

-No job stability, even with tenure -The principal/ admin determine to culture of the whole school. Some micromanage down to denying teacher access to adult washrooms.

Advice to Management

Offer a stable environment for the staff and students, and both will excel.

    Pros

    benefits of city employment like Bulls tickets, Circus Tickets, and fun and free events offered to parents w/ small children.

    Cons

    constant budget issues, constant change in management, politically connected ppl in high position but lack knwldg. Pretty faces in high positions

    I worked at Chicago Public Schools full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Feels good working with the children, once you earn their trust and they realize that you are really trying to help them.

    Cons

    The powers that be do not think about the students. The schools need to find a good reading program & stick with it for more than one or two years. Give it a chance to work. Way too much emphasize on testing & teaching to the test. Students will never do well until they learn to READ.

    Advice to Management

    Management does not have a clue as to what works & what does not.
