I have been working at Children Of America full-time for less than a year

Pros

There are no "best reasons" to work at the Children of America in Ellicott City, Maryland

Cons

Inexperienced, self-absorbed center management; concerned about shaving work hours and saving money for upper management. The children ARE NOT the primary concern as they should be in a child CARE center. The "care" is all about cash

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Very simply -- spend some actual time in classrooms; like an Undercover Boss. See what your teachers go through in an average week and help standardize care across classrooms. A standard operating procedure manual would make everyone's work so much easier with uniform care across the classrooms. Each classroom has a different style, depending on the teacher's abilities. Everyone in our center is still using their cell phones on a regular basis, including to set up and maintain outside babysitting for the families in their classrooms. Conflict of interest? You bet!

    I have been working at Children Of America full-time

    Pros

    Being with children. Loving, caring and helping them learn. Rather new facility.

    Cons

    Hours go by with no bathroom break. Management signs you in and out on your time card. Poor wages with no raises, ever. Children are shuffled around from room to room and from care-taker to care-taker with no regards as to what this does to them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Get out of the office and see what's going on in YOUR center. Make it about "the children" instead of about the money and man in Florida.

    I worked at Children Of America full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    Not a whole lot of them except a small bi-weekly paycheck.

    Cons

    The director has no idea what the employees are up too. No pay raises. Management has no consideration for what the children are put through on a daily basis. Employee turn-over is wild and this is not a good thing. Children need consistency.

    Put the children before the money!
