I worked at Children's Health

Pros

The work the organization does for children is something to be proud of. At the end of the day no matter how bad your daily work experience has been, you feel better knowing that in some way your work helped a child in need.

Cons

There is a huge disconnect between teams, managers, and etc.
People are more worried about self preservation than doing the right thing.
Many of the employees have been with Children's for many years...but this is not a plus. They are very behind the times in the way they conduct day to day business, they more concerned about their employment and preserving it than doing what is right, and they tend only work well with people of the exact same mind set as them. This is not the place for fresh new ideas. Either fit in and go with the statuesque (no matter right or wrong) or look for a new job. Most of your time employed with Children's will be an up hill fight so be prepared.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would suggest reevaluating your employees at the manager and director level in the IT department. There are many mangers there that should be put out to pasture. They have been with Children's for far to long and are totally disconnected from the rest of the world. I think a sign of a good manager is someone who hires people with more real world knowledge of them for whatever is needed. Unfortunately, many of the managers have been with Children's for so long and have so much to loose that they view motivated forward thinking with exceptional skillets as a threat. This leads them to only hire and keep a lesser bread of employee. This does not benefit your organization and it definitely does not benefit your patients.
