Pros

Generous time off no conversion to POD (which is less time) but 10 holidays, 15 vacation and 12 sick Ample parking at Central Florida Sites Some of them are not "assessible" to the disabled (shhhh) Promotions from within with loads of employees with services over four years Consistent and reliable paydays Prompt mileage reimbursement (a necessity) Flexible schedules Aggressive wellness campaign with incentives Employee recognition activites 3-4x yearly

Cons

Four levels of employees (some at Post Master's levels) still qualify for Public Assistance benefits Raises are seldom On-line training is a poor substitute for on-going training requirements

Current Employee - Dependency Case Manager in Tampa, FL

I have been working at Children’s Home Society of Florida

    Pros

-Contributing to the welfare and safety of children
    -Flex schedule
    -No on call work
    -No weekend work

    Cons

    -High turnover rate
-Overloaded w/work to the point where children are at risk & it is out of your control. However, if or when something happens, it WILL be your fault. Dont let anyone tell you different.
-Everybody in the system (i.e. judges) dont always see eye to eye with case management leaving you in a helpless position in spite of the DCM being the one with the most contact and knowledge about the families. Another thing that again puts children at greater risk & limits your ability to accomplish your goal of keeping children safe.
-No on call or weekends, however, IF ordered by the judge to do something over the weekend, YOU will have to do it.
-No on call work but you find yourself staying in the office for long hrs in order to stay afloat. I say "afloat" because you NEVER seem to catch up in this world of non-stop "to do" emails, court hearings, home visits(sometimes weekly, every 2wks, every 25 days) depending on the case, mandatory trainings, staff meetings, transporting children to and fro when the overworked FSW is unable to do so, etc etc.
-Overtime is not paid at time and a half as other organizations. So after a few hrs of overtime, you actually begin to LOSE money.
-Gas rates have gone up, workload going up, travel going up BUT pay is still the same
-There is no training that can prepare you for what you will encounter when you begin this job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work HARDER on staffing more people to decrease the child safety risk & to keep your employees who are constantly crying out for HELP!
