Pros

Rewarding experience working with the local community. Great place to learn about non-profit organizations and their operations

Cons

Managers have been there for years and are stuck to their old ways. Not much room for growth and promotion.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn to be more flexible and changes with the times. Trust your employees.

    I worked at Chinatown Service Center full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Management team is slowly changing and the environment seems to be getting better. Finance and HR is fairly new and making significant changes in the attitude and direction of the agency. Staff is also feeling more of a team and trying to work together.

    Cons

    Still a lot of work needs to be done in developing staff and hiring stronger individuals. Still need stronger management and leadership.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Hire stronger players and be open to change. Value old employees that have leadership and strength and try to keep them.

    Programs and services are important to the community.

    Cons

    Lack of growth, change, and innovation. Lack of understanding of current nonprofit trends and importance of adapting to community changes. No room for growth and high turnover in staff. Every employee is disposable and executive management does not take into consideration the staff's opinion.

    Take input from the front line staff and be forward thinking.
