I have been working at Chrysler as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

Contract worker: once I hit 40 hours I can pack it up for the week, a chance to become direct hire, many departments/ areas to work for once one becomes a direct hire. Great opportunities from a well known employer...stepping stone.

    Cons

Contract worker: same responsibilities of those who are direct, but expected to be more productive with less pay and benefits, lack of commitment to set goals to become direct hire. All departments operate as separate entities. Check the box culture. Minimal thought as to why we are doing something as long we can say we did it...checking the box. Its more important to be running around in circles than to be engineering.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest in the contractors. Be willing to make to plan. Unite your departments under the same quality goals you speak of so often. Remember to put you customers first followed by your employees.
