I have been working at Chuck E. Cheese's part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Free soda, nice coworkers. Sometimes the managers will allow others to help you with your close if you're behind.

    Cons

    - Management lacks people skills (focused on money, and their goal is to "balance" labor and profits, which usually results in people getting sent home/called off, and subsequently, under-staffing.)
    - Any district manager I've dealt with has gotten their point across with pure rudeness.
    - 95% of the customers are inept/rude.
    - Long hours (especially for high school students, you're usually stuck closing till 11:30 on school nights!)
    - Extremely hard to advance to Team II.
    - Cross departmental training is nearly impossible.
    - Poor management structure (in the stores I've seen.)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

District managers - loosen up on your employees just a bit. Half the time, they're under 18 and still learning. Screaming at them and using spiteful sarcasm only hurts them.
Corporate - modify the Kid Check policies so someone doesn't have to be standing at the door 100% of the time. This usually results in a manager standing there during a closing shift, which puts the closers more behind when they need to replace him/her when they go to do paperwork.

Also, take into account that most of your employees are minors, and its not healthy for them to stay till 11:00 or later on a school night, and most managers require you to clock out before getting your job done, and still making you finish (just so they can avoid a working violation.)

    Former Employee - Party Hostess
    Former Employee - Party Hostess

    I worked at Chuck E. Cheese's part-time for more than a year

    Pros

There are some pros to working here, at least for a first job if you're ~ 16. You get free drinks, half priced food, and if you're a Party Hostess you have the potential of making tips (although this is extremely inconsistent and you're not technically supposed to be taking tips according to HQ).

    Cons

The management is absolutely terrible. No one cares about the store, the employees, etc. The managers would all gossip about each other to the employees and it would get extremely awkward for everyone. Managers would hide in the office doing "paperwork" (which meant texting, eating, sleeping, etc.) daily. When asked to come out to fix a game or settle down an upset guest, they would get furious at you. Hours were extremely inconsistent and everything was done for the company to make money. On a busy Saturday, you can work a 9 hours shift and not be allowed to have a break. However, on a calm Monday you're forced to take one after only working for a couple hours to cut down on hours. Ridiculous. I was also forced to work through my unpaid break on many occasions. It's an awful place to work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Step up and show your employees respect.
