I worked at Ciber

Pros

Variety of customers exposes you to many different industries. Some great people with skills and talent that you can learn from. A chance to help re-define methodologies that are more in line with client expectations and today's IT marketplace. Ability for project teams to be involved from estimating through to delivery and complete a project on time and on budget.

Cons

Mixed signals from upper management causes confusion as to direction of company. Some old-school mentality in upper management stifles the creativity and innovation suggested by the workers in the know. Everything is about the billable hour - if you're not billable, one foot out the door. Consultants pidgeon holed into positions promised to be a certain period of time then left there as long as the client wanted - minimal regard for the consultants career growth.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Company has recently done a major re-org (late 2010) which may correct some of the negative feelings at the company. CIBER needs to focus equally on the business side of IT and not just the technology itself. Clients want more consults who understand the real business need as opposed to just cutting a line of code.

    I worked at Ciber

    Pros

    Co-workers - great consulting staff
Work/Life Balance - able to take time as needed

    Cons

It's obvious that the new "culture" at CIBER is a lot less geared towards employee retention and growth than it is improving CIBER's bottom line. Really sad to see a great company to work for turn into a revolving door staffing company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take a hard look at your sr leaders, in regards to compentency and leadership. No one seems to be holding them accountable for either. Also, communication (which wasn't great to begin with) bottomed out.

I have been working at Ciber

    Pros

CIBER has the size that it could become an incredible company if they would get rid of all the old staff aug executives and bring in a whole new executive that had a clue how to build, run, and grow a consulting company.

    Cons

CIBER is a staff aug company that was failing miserably so thought they would become a managed services consulting company. But all they did was change the reporting hierarchy. They have done nothing to become a consulting company. Daily, the executive management continues to show that they are still just a staff aug company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn to trust and value your people. Quit running the company like a staff aug company. As a consultancy, your people are your #1 asset. You need to learn to train them, trust them, and empower them for success! Quite frankly, I have NEVER in over 30 years in the workplace, worked for a company that took such little care and concern for their people.
