Pros

2 -3 years ago, Cigital was a company with many bright people and little methodology. Today, Cigital has a lot more methodology and structure in the way assignments are carried out. The training has improved by leaps and bounds. Contrary to other reviews, the management actually listens to it's consultants . The sales department does a fab job at NOT over selling (unfortunately, most consultants do not recognize this). The CEO appears to be transparent.
You get to build an excellent professional network as one gets an opportunity to work with different clients.
The work environment is pretty laid back and most senior staff are approachable (although different people have had different experiences).

Cons

Cigital does very little to recognize exceptional work. Hence, the loudest get more attention. So, if you are vocal and above-average, you get more recognition than if you are silent and brilliant. To give credit where due, once recognition is made, they do enough to keep you happy. Also, there are proposals for new measures. Let's see how they work
Most reviews are accurate about the bonus. They market it at 10%, but that number is a bit of a joke. Even the best employees don't hit that number (ever)
Don't expect to be pampered. This is a really not a place for people who require constant attention.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please market the bonus program differently (and if possible improve it).
Continue to be transparent
keep up the good work. I, for one am confident about Cigital's future as a company

    Pros

    good place for recent graduates.

    Cons

team culture is missing, people work in isolated groups, fewer growth opportunities hence people leave in 1-3 years.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

As much as I like Cigital to succeed, there is still a long way to go for Cigital to become a stable company. For a company started in 1992, you'd expect it to perform better. Some of the fundamental issues have been ignored for a longest time.

There is definitely a lesson to be learned from start-ups in bay area, where even a small firm (size of 10-15 smart people) have the capability to create a great culture & make a profitable firm in 2-5 years.

    A lot of well known people in security used to work for Cigital and most of them left for one reason or another. There is not a lot of visibility when anyone leaves the company. Cigital needs to focus more on the people;

However some of the folks are really nice. Director of HR is helpful and tries to work for the best interest of everyone.

    I worked at Cigital

    Pros

If you are a fresh graduate looking for your first employment in consulting, then you probably won't mind too much being at this place. You'll get a nice exposure to some big-name clients and you'll learn the tricks of the trade.

On the other hand, if you are ready to move on to the next level, look elsewhere - there are many security consulting companies out there who understand that their most important assets are their employees, not their clients' pockets.

    Cons

Management is so shortsighted and focused on the quick buck that they'll do anything they can to make a deal, even if it ends up alienating their consultants. The concept of investing on employees is foreign to Cigital, and they are not realizing that the few valuable consultants they have are leaving in droves.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest on your consultants, without them you won't have any valuable business.
