Satellite offices tend to be less up on company initiatives, a ton of competition with other major carries

Stay attune to the advice of ALL of your sales reps and not just the ones who are the top performers. A lot can be learned from those who are grinding it out every day.

    Pros

    Pay rate is better here on the corporate side in comparison to mid-level agencies. The name "Cigna" on your resume is reputable and familiar. If hired full-time, take advantage of Cigna's CRG (Colleague Resource Groups), this can help introduce new colleagues and resources to become fully engaged at the company.

    Cigna's CEO, David Cordani, seems like a genuine leader. He's inspiring.

    Cigna is a fast-paced environment, and they utilize latest marketing and sales tools in the industry. The brand image of Cigna seen in its current advertising campaigns is looking bold and better from years past.

    Cons

    Lack of a dynamic, young professional workforce probably due to corporate politics and inexperienced mid-level managers.

    Lack of professional development for employees. From my experience and what I saw on my team, the mandated Development Action Plan (professional development plan) is somewhat of a joke. Manager never kept professional development meetings. Seems like senior manager wanted to move quickly to the top of the ladder and became too busy for lower level direct reports.

    If you're looking for a technology advanced and innovative company, this may not be the place for you. If you want your ideas heard and supportive management, corporate politics makes this very challenging.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    If Cigna's mantra is really GO YOU and something along the lines of "your people are your company's best asset", then mean it and be true to this. Try transforming the company culture within from the inside out and grow advocacy out of your current employees. This is not happening on the inside.

    Train your mid-level managers to respect, lead, and truly care for their Millennial employees- anyone can be a manager, it takes much more to be a leader. Break the up silos and get rid of the corporate politics. Review your SpeakEasy "resource" to employees- it's outdated and really not for the employee but in place to support and train your managers? Not sure how this will work for the Millennials that will be 50% of the workforce in 2020. Support your Millennial workforce as they are the ones with new ideas that may be able to change and inspire the dying and tough image of the healthcare insurance industry.

    Hire from the outside based on credentials and experience and not because you had to "fill the position." This is noticed and questions the integrity of senior management.
