I have been working at Cineplex Entertainment part-time

Pros

-Free movies for you and a friend every two weeks
-Friendly environment, fun meetings and celebrations
-If you work hard, you will be recognized
-It is hard work but VERY fun at the same time.

Cons

-It is HARDWORK for minimum wage. You have to stay there till late.. and late I mean easilyyyyy 12-1am.
-It can get really busy before show times
-If you work concession, its too much stress when it gets busy. And you have to do physical count every night and that is a PAIN because if the count doesn't match with what is in the system you are STAYINGGGGGG LATE until it is sorted out..
-If you work as usher, you'll have to clean up after people's mess and when it busy it's not that fund
-Never worked box office but it seemed much more relaxed than the other positions

I worked at Cineplex Entertainment part-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

I met some of my closest friends working for Cineplex. When I was a teenager, it was super fun to go to work.

    Cons

-Unfair compensation. You will not get a raise easily, and when you do it will be most likely a max of 25 cents. Most often, it's 5 to 15 cents.... super motivating.
-Head office does not care about their employees. As ticket prices go up, wages stay the same. No matter how your company does revenue wise, your wage will never change.
-Management turn over is frequent, no consistency or training really provided for managers. Managers often sit around in the office instead of doing any work and don't recognize employees for doing their jobs, only yell at them for not doing something more.
-Don't bother thinking it will get better the higher up you get, I have worked all positions up to Operations manager and it never gets better. Things get more disorganized and awful the higher you get.
-Working weekends and holidays gets old quick. Not easy to book off time, and when you're at a theatre where you can book off time easily it's because they don't pay attention to who books off when. So when you're actually working, the building is short staffed.
-Schedules are ridiculous. Good luck being scheduled any time but when you aren't available.
-Guests will yell at you for things far beyond your control. They'll swear at you for no good reason and your managers won't do much about it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try paying your employees more. You clearly have the money. Train your managers and actually fire the ones that don't do their jobs.

I have been working at Cineplex Entertainment part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    - Lots of socializing time, especially on floor
    - A fun team
    - You can give shifts away to coworkers
    - Free movies and 50% off food during shift

    Cons

    - Work usually on Friday and Saturday nights when it's most busy
    - Really irritating managers who scold you even when you're doing washroom duty for 7 hours
    - No advancement- you must beg to be trained on Box Office or Concession, etc. Some people like me have been on floor for over a year (floor = ripping tickets, cleaning theatres, washroom checks)
    - Lots of teenagers working= lots of drama
    - Managers don't give you motivation to work, no praise for going above and beyond + they're very rude and defy every rule that they teach you in training (eg. no swearing, no cell phones, no gossip)
    - Physically exhausting and repetitive job, worth more than minimum wage
    - ON-CALL SHIFTS= the worst thing in the world. You must call the manager 3 hours prior to the on-call shift, and half the time they don't even pick up. Sometimes they tell you to come in for an on-call and then let you off early after 2 hours of work. Terrible organization
    - Also, terrible scheduling. They give you shifts that are outside of your availability- during the summer you get one shift a week (because they hire 20 unnecessary people) and during your exams they give you 20+ hours a week.
    - Overall, this job should last you 6 months max before you go insane, and I've exceeded that. Very disappointing, even for minimum wage (and my expectations were low)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Recognize employees for their hard work and make sure that team leaders and managers are complying with THEIR rules.
