I have been working at Cisco Systems

Pros

1. If you are working in the right division on the right job you are good.
2. Good benefits such as Vacation time, Insurance and if you have a good manager good work-life balance as well.
3. Brand Name

Cons

1. Your growth is directly proportional to the number of people you know inside Cisco.
2. Most managers are very technical and resolve your technical issues if you are stuck but that stops there, people skills are negligible to Zero with most.
3. Size of the company is a problem, you are just another employee in the 70k folks inside, some employee services such as Immigration take your service request for granted.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take care of the employees, Train managers candidates well before promoting them.

I have been working at Cisco Systems

    Pros

There are still some great people at Cisco, although because of process and politics the people don't have the ability to influence change like they used to. You can learn a great deal from the people who have been around for a while.

    Cons

There are hundreds of directors at Cisco with no reports. The company is so executive and management heavy that its mind boggling. They have also placed a bet on outsourcing many functions, and as a result its difficult to get even the simplest tasks performed by anyone competent.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop spending 100+ million dollars to acquire companies and acquire talent instead. The people acquired during a buyout leave first chance they get, and are often dead weight until they get their package.

    I worked at Cisco Systems

    Pros

Work hours flexibility, telecommuting, great senior management leadership. Reward and recognition, as well as continuing eduction/career discusions with manager to help guide your career.

    Cons

Some inside politics with hidden agendas. Some long hours if you have global teams (e.g. early morning calls, late night calls); work at home some weekends to complete some reports/project deliverables.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look at other companies struggles and lessons learned from Cisco's own struggles. Do not buy companies that does not positively impact the stock price, bottom line.
