Flexible workplace with plenty of opportunities but management could use improvement

Software Engineer (Current Employee)
San Jose, CA

I have been working at Cisco Systems

ProsThere are lots of opportunities within the company so you aren't necessarily stuck in one position. Very open culture that allows any employee to approach senior level management easily. And flexible work environments allows many employees to work from home on a regular basis.

ConsManagement is not very good at planning projects and there seems to be a shortage of resources in spite of the large number of employees. In many cases, engineers become managers without learning without improving their people skills. Compensation and rewards are not the best for employees that stay at the company. It seems like the best way to grow your salary is to leave.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe candidate selection for management positions needs to be more rigorous. The company should also try to compensate employees with higher salaries and better rewards especially if they are ready to leave for other opportunities.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend
