    I worked at Cisco Systems

    Pros

My team had an excellent culture. lots of freedom to work and innovate, good rapport between managers and managed. The benefits were great, and they treated the employees well.

    Cons

Some elements (such as performance reviews) were constantly changing with seemingly arbitrary effects on employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep the focus on operational excellence. Clean out the cruft that impeded inter-team collaboration. Encourage (and budget for) more non-IT tool development.

I have been working at Cisco Systems

    Pros

The are a very ethical and respectable company, with a very flexible work policy. They continually solicit feedback from employees on internal policies and meeting effectiveness. They offer many different challenging job roles within the networking field, and large campuses to keep internal moves from affecting your commute.

    Cons

The hours are long, they have a forced ranking system, and there is lots of internal competition over engineering projects and resources. Execution is all-important and quality suffers. They are overly-frugal... employee families are never invited to company events.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Implement more focus on employee retention and career development. Reassign managers whose employees regularly lack engagement and happiness. Try to improve connectedness among teams.
