I have been working at Cisco Systems full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Decent benefits, lots of cool stuff to learn

    Cons

Company is too bloated with long tenured management who have been there for way too long; this culture stands in the way of the advancement of new ideas that can potentially propel the company forward.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give personnel that come in via acquisition more of a chance and leave them alone to continue to build what attracted Cisco to acquire them in the first place.

I worked at Cisco Systems full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Telecommuting/working from home; some great people are still left. It's a good place to learn the technology if you're just getting into the industry, and you play your cards right.

    Cons

Politics rules rather than technical innovation. In some specific cases, management covers up what should be firing offenses against "favorite sons" among the management team. Most managers are focused on building their empire, rather than building the company. Senior management doesn't understand the product they are actually building and selling, and doesn't know, within the company, who actually does.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop surrounding yourself with "yes men."
