I have been working at Cisco Systems full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Fun work environment, flexible work hours and spaces, great customers to work with. For a long time Cisco had a great strategy and moved into innovative areas, but the economy crashed and Cisco had to refocus.

    Cons

We ran out of products and our BUs bacame too political and lost their mojo. They lost all the good people and have been left with subpar PMs and others. Cisco's had a series of layoffs and has demoralized the company. Cisco has exited a number of businesses and is more of an R&S company as opposed to a true communications company.

    Advice to Management

Figure out what the corporate strategy is and execute off that. Hire better managers.

I have been working at Cisco Systems full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

You get all the benefits of a large company. You get VPs who's only job is to decide what flavor the soda is in the vending machines. It may be inefficient at times, but a lot of firepower can be brought to bear on a problem/market/product.

    Cons

BIg companies have a lot of history, legacy products, existing customers, old code etc... Hard to be nimble.
