I have been working at Cisco Systems full-time (more than 8 years)

Pros

Pockets of good, interesting and challenging work. Nice gym, cafes are healthy.

Cons

Certainly not better than other companies in the valley in terms stability, morale, compensation, or benefits. Not a bad company for 3-5 years...if you are there longer than that you are under paid and they would rather let you walk. Politics has an impact on day-to-day work. Managers are hit and miss, and with all the turnover, mostly

I have been working at Cisco Systems full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Flexible work environment, Good bonus program at mid- to senior levels, really smart people. Some products very strong. Great lab infrastructure for engineers to play and get certifications.

    Cons

Strategy drifting a bit, promos based on relationships vs. competence, acquisition process, competitive response (including SDN). Solutions approach confusing. Too many re-orgs. San Jose buildings getting very old and need a major refresh.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of some very senior execs, allow for next wave to move up and inject new energy, new ideas. Consider stopping additional projects to free up spending into new projects. Fail more often on projects to learn.
