Current Employee - Service Manager in New York, NY

I have been working at Cisco Systems full-time (more than 5 years)

Pros

Great work environment, awesome benefits and opportunities to advance in career. Love the culture to do the right thing for your employees and customers.

Cons

Would like to see more structured programs on career building and moving around within the company. Also, regular raises would be great.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Rate teams instead of individuals if you want better results, sometimes people are competing more than collaborating that hinders in the overall growth of the company.

I worked at Cisco Systems full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Great compensation and benefits, Industry leader, ability to telecommute, many good people who work hard to get things done.

    Cons

Very political, poor communications, very "need-to-know" information flow. Constant re-organizations, you are told, not asked, what you new position will be. Vice Presidents surround themselves with allies and the allies surround themselves with allies. You need to be in San Jose and in the right building to get promoted. A lot of full-time yet part time workers, do the minimum to stay hidden.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fire Chambers, Break the internal cartels and silos , Don't let indians hire and promote only indians, Stop spending and wasting a fortune on useless marketing and other communication activities. Stop trying to be "hip" you're no longer going after the consumer market.

I worked at Cisco Systems full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Every person I ever came into contact at any department was a top performer, very professional and focused. Company benefits are exemplary and depending on your area of work, you could be doing extremely significant work of great value worldwide.

    Cons

It is a fast-paced environment, if you don't like challenges or can work on your best every day, you should re-consider.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I think for certain technical positions it would be very advantageous to rotate them to different technology areas within the company, so they can be exposed to all that Cisco does first hand.
