I have been working at Cisco Systems full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

I'm sad to say that the number of pros is shrinking every year

    Pay is generally good

    Cons

Layoffs are becoming commonplace and morale is sinking!

Competition is growing in many areas - routing, switching, security, collaboration

    Very few opportunities to advance

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Cut some of the fat at the top and stop cutting individual contributors. It's getting harder and harder for teams to get their jobs done.

    Pros

Great company, great technology, great people.

Huge opportunity to get exposure to some of the most innovative and fast paced technology in the industry.

    Cons

Not the startup or growth technology company that it once was.
Culture has changed over the years.
Career and pay advancement is tough. As is with most large companies, there is too much red tape and not enough common sense.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Use common sense over processes and procedures.
Focus on core competencies and listen to your employees (especially sales teams) when they tell you certain one off products are not up to par.
