  1. Great pay to work in a completely directionless madhouse

    Pros

Relative to my skills and background, Cisco pays very well - both my starting salary and my current (higher) wage.

    Cons

Cisco is a complete madhouse. Disorganized, dysfunctional and obsessed with complexity in every possible sense. Internal website resources (HR, payroll, employee info, etc.) are nearly impossible to use, which actively discourages employees from taking advantage of many of the perks that should be easy to access. Management is in a constant state of flux - every week, employees receive these self-congratulatory emails announcing the latest round of management changes at all levels, and yet employee morale is terrifically poor. Cisco "culture" seems to mostly consist of feeding scenarios from Dilbert comics through an automatic acronym-generation system.

    Advice to Management

Stop patting yourselves on the back and actually communicate, in non-jargon-filled acronym-fests, what employees should expect in the next 3, 6 or 12 months. Seriously. We are tired of hearing about the never-ending game of Executive Musical Chairs. **THROW OUT** the entire "CEC" ("Cisco Employee Connection") internal website and start over with a goal of simplifying and condensing info.

    Pros

Great benefits Good work balance Easy to work from home Great sales force

    Cons

Worked on projects that don't seem to have direction Skilled development engineers on the decline Collaboration among teams are nonexistent

    Advice to Management

Go back to hiring and retaining the top 10% and don't compromise.
