I have been working at Cisco Systems full-time (more than 5 years)

Pros

Wonderful work environment, superior benefits, great people who are just as motivated as you are to get the job done and help the end customer succeed.

Cons

Some of the previous perks were removed due to the down turn in the economy, yet while we have since posted excellent gains over previous years, those perks have not returned.

    Pros

    Flexibility combined with good benefits, good learning scope within the company, Very good Sr Mgmt

    Cons

    Rewards system for top performers is flawed & demotivating, a lot of politics within first/second line managers & middle mgmt (sr mgmt is good though)

    Identify real top performers and reward them instead of rewarding people who are in good books of first/second line of managers

    I have been working at Cisco Systems full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    - A large technology company with a large breadth of technology areas and market coverage should provide varied opportunities for growth
    - Great place for people with outstanding technical backgrounds who are looking to be challenged
    - Surprising amount of room for growth even though it is currently a large company

    Cons

    - Challenges exist for people who join and do not have detailed technical skills. Cisco struggles with how to use and take full advantage of non-technical resources such as Program Management
    - HR processes (career and professional development) not well managed

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Focus more on HR processes (career & professional development), make managers take a larger role,focus on more than just the top 10%. You are losing a lot of very talented people because of it
    - Develop system integration and complex program management. It is going to be essential to taking services to the next step
