Executive leadership (top 3-4 tiers) are indecisive, inconsistent and self-serving

    Pros

Really smart people, and very cool technology. If the culture were better, they could make a significant difference in the world.

    Cons

Unwelcoming to leaders who join from the outside (unless you're from HP or IBM). Not OK to disagree with leadership - especially in front of others. Company pays lip service to caring about employees day-to-day - yes, they will help if your family gets sick, but they won't make it an easy, caring place to work. Hyper political culture, where if you aren't long time friends with (or related to) the main exec's, you will have a hard time building support for doing the job the company asked you to do. Don't trust what the managers tell you. They don't generally have the power to do what they say they will.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The leadership culture you're creating is untrustworthy. Stop treating people like they are interchangeable. If you want loyal, innovative employees to give above and beyond, get rid of the political, back-biting, gossiping backbone of this company. Trust has to be deserved.

I have been working at Cisco Systems as a contractor (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great fellow-workers, cool projects to work on. Great pace to keep you busy and plenty to work on. Fast-passed industry, setting the trend within the industry and across all businesses. They play to win.

    Cons

Sometimes getting the work-life balance can be a challenge. But over the long-run, it works out. Sometimes too much emphasis and doing virtual work. Always great to meet co-workers face-to-face.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Remember your number one asset is your people.
