I have been working at Cisco Systems as a contractor (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great fellow-workers, cool projects to work on. Great pace to keep you busy and plenty to work on. Fast-passed industry, setting the trend within the industry and across all businesses. They play to win.

    Cons

Sometimes getting the work-life balance can be a challenge. But over the long-run, it works out. Sometimes too much emphasis and doing virtual work. Always great to meet co-workers face-to-face.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Remember your number one asset is your people.

I have been working at Cisco Systems full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Good technology area, comfortable work-life balance and reasonable pay are some of the areas in which Cisco excels. There are pockets of great innovation and politics free environment that you might actually enjoy - if you are lucky to land in those.

    Cons

Cisco lost lots of good talent over past few years and what is remaining is a lots of stagnant baggage. It is hard to execute with that. Next, while you come to expect some amount in any large organization, here the politics is horrendous. IMO it is again that stagnant baggage which without any zeal for some smarts / innovation to grow their careers instead use politics to grow.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire awesome talent, raise the bar. Weed out stagnant cruisers who just report to work. Bring back the old Cisco culture.
