Good and rapidly changing company

Current Intern - Summer Intern in San Jose, CA
Current Intern - Summer Intern in San Jose, CA

I have been working at Cisco Systems as an intern (less than a year)

Pros

Well structured with a bunch of talented people; Supportive corporate culture; Encouragement of multi-area exposure

Cons

Sometimes a bit over communication; People prefer tele communication than seeing each other face to face, even if they're in the same building

I have been working at Cisco Systems full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

    - Great Benefits (Health Insurance/ESPP/401K/PTO)
    - Work Life Balance
    - Flexibility to do what you want.
    - Stability
    - Number 1 in it's industry and starting to expand to other areas as well.
    - Alot of projects to work on (Depends on your BU I guess)
    - Tuition Reimbursement for graduate school

    Cons

    - No yearly salary increases, once in a few years. (Also depends on BU)
    - Slow moving and decision making company. Probably because it's an old company.
    - A lot of old timers waiting for retirement.
    - Bureaucratic

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire more new grads or young blood to help boost up morale and get the momentum going again.

Former Employee - Administrative Assistant in San Jose, CA
Former Employee - Administrative Assistant in San Jose, CA

I worked at Cisco Systems full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Room for growth. If you take initiative you can go far. Many ways to get involved. Cisco has a great volunteer program that lets the employees contribute their time to good causes. Good teamwork and collaboration within Cisco.

    Cons

The employee evaluations are sometimes difficult to compile. The employee needs to asses themselves, then the manager gives input. Here is where you list your accomplishments and classes you have attended. Unfortunately, the admins are grouped together with the teams they support, so it is hard to rank high compared with team members that do more complex jobs.
