Great place to work. Getting back to its old culture... slowly. High tech, but not startup mentality.

I have been working at Cisco Systems for more than 10 years

Pros

Good managers abound, but politics a growing concern. Has lost the small startup mentality long ago. Works as a big machine with lots of re-orgs.

Cons

Uses old bellcurve system of performance management which discourages management from forming a team of Top 10%. Little ability for employees to share in company stock outside of ESPP.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of the old guard at the very top of the structure. Replace the CPC system with one that encourages employees to help each other instead of compete against each other for top 15%.

I have been working at Cisco Systems as a contractor for more than 3 years

    Pros

There is always a new project to work on, and very collaborative people to team with. Nothing is ever not considered, and diversity thrives.

    Cons

The effort verse reward scale is always in the effort camp for a lot longer than the reward, which can be disheartening at times. With such a high percentage being red badges (contractors), there is a sense or inequality at times amongst teams, especially when the rational for conversion to blue badge (permanent) is not always consistent across the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have better and more constructive reviews for contractors.
Have progression and mentoring programs within teams to support dedicated individuals aspirations at being considered for blue badge (permanent) status.
