I have been working at Cisco Systems as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

I've enjoyed working with some of the smartest minds I've met in my nearly 10 years in IT. Management seems to have good direction without micromanaging their employees.

    Cons

Only downsides are that they tend to hire more contractors and don't often convert to full time until a year or two into contract.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Recently the media announced 4000 layoffs and management states this is due to hiring in business units that were not producing at the level Cisco expects. Rather than layoff these people they should be able to move into another Business Unit that is in need of staffing. If they are poor performing employees, certainly lay them off - but not because you want to increase profits.
