I have been working at Cisco Systems full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

Benefits are good. Cisco works very hard to put excellent people in their roles that collaborate together. In the time that I have been here I have found all my coworkers very helpful; we all work together to make sure we are all successful.

Cons

The money is good but could be better.
Each year there are management changes which are good and bad. You never know if you will be working for the same manager for more than one year. If you really love your manager you may not have him the next year.
Fortunately most managers are great people and also try and make you successful at what you do.
Big challenge with expense control. Sometimes it's limiting to doing your job.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on the competition and be faster at competing.

Simply Hopeless. Too much politics. People work to keep their job.

I worked at Cisco Systems full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Flexibility to work remotely makes a huge difference.

    Cons

Perhaps this was the most nightmarish experience I have had in a big company. It's sad that Cisco had such fat cats sitting and just taking bad decisions for business to suit their personal ambitions for promotion.

Politics and lack of people with proper skills - that should sum it up. Nobody really cares about doing good work. All they care is "how do I keep my manager happy" so they can keep their job.

New ideas are shot down and people who voice their opinion are shown the door out.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do something that really ads value to the company than sitting on big fat bonuses and salary. The tech industry always changes, and though Cisco has been around for 20 years.. don't rest on it's laurels! You could be jobless if you keep working this way because by now your brains don't know how to make good decisions that really make a difference.
