I worked at Cisco Systems full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    - Supportive of career advancement. Allow and encourage employees to learn about new technologies, attend conferences.
    - Depending on the group you will have an opportunity to work with some of the experts in the industry.
    - Good benefits/Bonuses/RSUs.
    - Free Shuttle services to Caltrain/Bart Stations, San Francisco, Fremont.
    - Overall the work culture and environment is nice, some groups may have shorter release cycles than others, which means faster pace.
    - Encourage work from home.
    - Lots of internal tools for day to day activities that includes IT support and others.

    Cons

    - You may notice some political issues in bigger groups.
    - Newer projects will have too many deviations and lack of focus by management sometimes.
    - If there is a cutting edge new project, there are some senior people who would want to associate with it just to get some visibility.
    - Reorgs are frequent.
    - Some groups can be resistant in using the latest cutting edge technologies.
    - Cross team collaboration is often political and unpleasant.

    Pros

    2. Good bonus.
    3. Great benefits. Onsite medical facilities. Free shuttles to bart/caltrain/san francisco..
    4. Challenging work and cutting edge technology in some teams. Quality of work and management varies widely across teams/business units.

    Cons

Big bloated company, too many layers of management.
Not a fun workplace. Workplace Resources department is very inefficient and does a poor job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of redundancies and unnecessary layers. Make the company more attractive for young people.
