I have been working at Cisco Systems full-time (more than an year)

Pros

Interesting place to work with a relatively good corporate culture. Competitive salary, good benefits, and lots of smart people. This is a great place to start and grow your career.

Cons

Too many products with development spread around the globe, which makes communication between teams painful.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Executives pay lip service to empowering engineers and then force technical decisions down the chain. Some products that you work on get canceled because they were dreamed up by executives and marketing guys with unrealistic technical requirements and no customer input; surprise, surprise, no one buys it and you just wasted 6 months on a project that was doomed to fail from the beginning.

    I worked at Cisco Systems

    Pros

From a people, technology and product perspective, Cisco is by far one of best high tech companies in the US. I have worked a many high profile companies, and Cisco surpasses them all.

    Cons

Cisco leadership encourages employees to attain an equitable work/life balance. However, given the extreme workload demands, this is not possible. Employees must work with their leaders to attain the proper balance.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Engage more often with your employees. Listen and take action on their ideas, input and feedback. Specifically, focus on employees who work closest to Cisco customers, partners and stakeholders. They will provide the most valuable input from a market requirements perspective.

I have been working at Cisco Systems full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Came in as part of an acquisition and it has been very encouraging to find so many other folks who have come in that way and stayed around for so long. The benefits and the pay are good. I work from home full time which allows me great flexibility and time with my children.

    Cons

If you prefer a smaller environment it can be difficult to find the right niche within Cisco which provides that smaller company feel. Also travel budgets are pretty locked down which can make being a full time teleworkers difficult.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Find ways to bring people together physically. Also it is great to rely on TP and collaboration but that easy to say when only upper management has the good equipment for f2f
