The early years were very fulfilling but the culture has changed drastically and the fun is gone.

I have been working at Cisco Systems full-time for more than 10 years

Pros

Very large company
There can be lots of opportunity
They have a ton of cash

Cons

Very large company, very hard to get things done now
There is basically no travel allowed unless it's for customer business
The culture has shifted to large company mentality, it takes too much red tape to get anything done

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Bring back the "old" Cisco. Have the annual sales conferences again. Ignite the spark that made Cisco great.

I have been working at Cisco Systems full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great exposure to technology and corporate culture. Good work/life balance. Decent compensation and great benefits.

    Cons

If you stay in one role for more than a few years you could end up stuck there. Not to mention things become repetitive very fast so move around in order to stay relevant and continuing to learn. Management is not in sync across the bored so you can be a super star on one team, but a complete failure based on the criteria of another team. This is harmful to those who want to move around in the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More meaningful feedback on what it takes to reach the next level in your career. Set concrete expectations across the board to help maximize performance.

    Pros

    Work-life balance
    Family-friendly
    Collaborative and helpful
    Good mentorship
    Bay area is great
    Nice benefits/comp
New collaborative workspace --migrating away from isolated cubicles
Upper level management and execs are remarkably down-to-earth and approachable

    Cons

Huge company --makes it difficult for things to get done.
Communication can be poor going down the pyramid
Meetings can be a bit impersonal when they are conducted so frequently in a virtual space
Corporate culture can borderline on complacency
Delegation of work can be more efficient
